On Friday last week before class I went to Gotokuji! At first glance, it seems like an ordinary temple…
But tucked away in a corner is this!:
Spot the odd one out! :D
Gotokuji is said to be the place where the 招き猫 (Maneki Neko) originated from. This cat is the symbol of good fortune or money! :D And I love money haha so I had to come xD It is said that the daimyo Ii Naotaka was near the temple when a thunderstorm occurred. He saw this cat who did this beckoning thing with its arm (like the maneki nekos) and so he followed the cat into the temple. As he went to the temple, lightning struck a tree he was near and it fell down. It would have fallen down on him if he was still standing where he was so the cat saved him! So he created the Maneki Neko? Or so the story goes! I don’t really know haha I looked it up on the internet!
